About Ozone

Ozone is a triatomic molecule, comprising of 3 oxygen atoms (O3 ). It is a bluish coloured gas that occurs naturally in the lower atmosphere during discharge by thunderstorms, and is also produced by high voltage electrical applications such as photo copiers, arc welding or ozone generators. In the stratosphere, ozone is mainly produced by ultra violet rays reacting with oxygen, otherwise known as the ozone layer.

After being produced, ozone possesses a short half life and quickly decays back to diatomic oxygen (O2), which is why it cannot be stored/transported and is produced on site.

3 O2 → 2 O3 → 3 O2

Applications

Below are a few examples of industrial and consumer applications:

  • Sanitize swimming pools and spas
  • Sanitize aquariums or fish tanks
  • Disinfect drinking water
  • Kill mold/mildew
  • Kill bacteria on food and contact surfaces
  • Deodorize rooms from bad smells or smoke
  • Remove pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables
  • Dentistry
  • Ozone therapy
  • Hydroponics
